This Thursday, Doug Hicks will once again present his popular seminar guiding you through the steps to get started as a woodworker.
You’ll learn where to get project ideas and plans, what tools and machines to start out with (you’ll even learn the one tool Doug would take to a deserted island), terminology, safety, and practical tips that will help you get started woodworking and having fun in your own home shop.
This seminar follows close on the heels of the Woodsmith Store Tent Sale 2006. The tent sale is the kick-off event of the woodworking season and draws excited woodworkers from all over the Midwest looking for the best deals on woodworking equipment. "How to Get Started in Woodworking" is the only FREE seminar of the season and I want to encourage everyone to attend.

The end of September has come to mean two things to me in the last couple of years — the Woodsmith Store Tent Sale 2006 and the start of the woodworking seminar season.
I’m to the point where I don’t need too many power tools for my shop. Oh, I guess I could use a new circ saw. Plus, I’ve been meaning to get the General tenoning jig for my table saw. (Hope you’re reading this, honey!) This is the first time in several years that I won’t be working during the Tent Sale, so I’ll have lots of time to look over all the great deals. Hope to see you there. It starts on Friday, September 22nd and lasts through Sunday, Sept. 24th.
Then, the following Thursday, September 28th, Doug Hicks will be presenting the first seminar of the season — How To Get Started in Woodworking. This first seminar is free (sorry, no Saw Bucks tho!). If you’re new to woodworking you want to be sure to check it out. You can learn more about this seminar here.

Got tools you want to get rid of? Got tools you’d like to buy at bargain prices? Then you need to come to the Woodworkers’ Swap Meet on Saturday, September 9 from 8:00am to 1:00pm sponsored by the Des Moines Woodworkers’ Association.
If you’ve got tools to sell, you need to fill out this form. You can also see a sampling of tools that will be for sale on page 2 of this form.
