The pocket hole is one of the simplest forms of joinery in all of woodworking. All you need is a pocket hole jig to drill the holes and some special pocket hole screws to connect two pieces together. They’re great for avoiding problems with laying out your workpieces and with alignment. Plus, they eliminate the need to clamp up a lot of pieces during glue up.
Phil Huber show us why pocket holes are one of the most commonly used forms of joinery in woodworking during this week’s Woodsmith Woodworking Seminar.
The perfect cabinet needs a perfect door. Three-piece doormaking router bit sets, like the Amana set I used during my seminar, make this job easy. You can watch how I do it during my seminar called: Frames & Panels: The Heart of Cabinetmaking. It’s available for download now on WoodworkingOnline.com.

During this week’s seminar, Bryan Nelson uses a Porter-Cable 4212 to cut half-blind dovetails. He also makes use of a great new fixture for only the “best-equipped” of workshops — a Dovetail Jig Workcenter. (It’s featured in the latest issue of ShopNotes magazine.) This workcenter is loaded with features that make using your dovetail jig enjoyable. It doubles as a storage box for your dovetail jig and all the accessories that come with it. And, it has tons of features to make routing dovetails more accurate.
The Porter-Cable 4212 comes with templates for through, as well as half-blind, dovetails. It also has all-new alignment lines and a router bit depth stop that allows for quick, easy set-ups. It’s one of the best jigs out there for cutting machine cut dovetails.
