Doug Hicks

Doug HicksDoug Hicks has been working wood most of his life. He grew up eating sawdust in his father’s basement shop (his dad, Clifford was the editor of Popular Mechanics) and he has a Masters in Industrial Education (Wood Technology).

Currently Doug is a Vice President for August Home Publishing Company and Executive Editor of its Creative Resources Group. He was formerly Editor in Chief of Workbench magazine and Managing Editor of Woodsmith magazine. He’s also written articles for Popular Mechanics, School Shop, and Woodworker’s Journal. In addition to organizing the Seminars at the Woodsmith Store he has given presentations and seminars at woodworking shows and clubs across the U.S.

As a high school woodworking teacher, cabinetmaker and one time salesman at a retail woodworking store, Doug takes his woodworking seriously. But mostly, he likes to have fun building furniture for his home and family. He and his wife, Cathy, also own a not-for-profit company called C.L.D. Designs (www.CollapsibleCastles.com).
